The city I live in, Peterborough, is a connected place. It's like six degrees of separation on steroids. It's also a city where the people are quick to acknowledge accomplishments and creativity. Peterborough's latest way to connect takes this acknowledgement to a new level- the Petertweeter Awards. We have some lively tweeters here. Everything from special events announcements to requests for favourite songs on the radio fly around town on a second by second basis. One of my recent favourites is The United Way lauding it's Leaders of Change leading up to its 70th Anniversary - each day I wait with anticipation to see who the next leader will be. The most amazing thing to me is the tone of those I follow, and those who appear on my feed. This city is filled with people who genuinely love to talk to each other, share stories, or give a hot tip on a deal. Our media are on top of Twitter all the time, and frankly I've given up on The Weather Network for up-to-the-second road conditions - I just follow our local CHEX weather guy or one of our radio stations on Twitter to find out if the roads are still icy. Petertweeter Awards are a great way to showcase some of the engaging and interesting souls around here, Peterborough deserves a a big shout-out for its connections and the people who keep them going. I'm just glad Twitter is one of the ways I can feel connected too. CommentsJacki Byrnell 02/05/2012 5:51am
The city of Peterborough should use this in their presentations, it sounds like Peterborough is "Utopia", well written!
